What is a "head shop"?
A "head shop" or "headshop" (wikipedia) is a smoke shop or hippy shop that specializes in tobacco paraphernalia and smoking accessories, as well as glass art, music, clothing, and home decor. The first few head shops opened up in San Francisco in the 1960's. Now there are thousands of head shops across the world with more opening every day. Most head shops stock bongs (note: in the United States head shops require you to call them "water pipes" or "tubes"), hookahs, glass pipes, pipe screens, vaporizers, rolling papers, blunt wraps, digital scales, sex toys, incense, hemp products, tapestries, blacklight posters, and cigarette lighters. Use this directory to find these products at an online head shop or a local head shop near you.

History of Head Shops
The oldest widely known head shop in the United States was the Psychedelic Shop on Haight Street in San Francisco, it opened on January 3rd in 1966. The second shop to open was called "Head Shop" and was located on East Ninth Street in NYC. Around this time head shops began popping up in clusters in NYC's East Village and in California in Los Angeles and in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco.
